Ashley B. Smith
President and Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Ashley Smith has served as Vice President, then President, then CEO/President of Smith-Midland Corporation (DE) since 1990 and as a Director since 1994. He is the current President/Chief Operating Officer of Smith-Midland (VA) and during his time working with Smith-Midland Corporation, has previously held these positions of Vice President of Sales to Smith-Midland (VA) and Managing Director to Easi-Set Industries, leading Smith-Midland Corporation (VA) to the highest sales levels in its’ history without increasing the sales force.
Ashley has been active as a leader on several industry committees including the internationally recognized trade association, National Precast Concrete Association, where he has served in the role of Chairman for 2018. He volunteers locally where he is a founding member of the citizens’ committee to open the Fauquier County Branch Library, is a member of the citizens’ committee to raise funds to provide lights for the Liberty High School Football field, and serves as a soccer coach. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bridgewater College.
Matthew I. Smith
Vice President of Sales and Marketing
President of Concrete Safety Systems
Mr. Matthew Smith has served as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing since 2008 and President of Concrete Safety Systems since 2015, having previously held the position of Utility Sales Manager during the preceding nine years. He also worked as Sales Manager for Smith-Carolina from 1990-1993.
Mr. Smith is an active member in the local community, serving as past-chairman of the Fauquier County Transportation Committee, past-President of the Southern Fauquier Business Owners Association, current Fauquier County Planning Commisioner, and is an active member at the Midland Church of the Brethren. Mr. Smith is also a past-President and current board member of the Precast Concrete Association of Virginia. He earned his degree in Business Administration from Bridgewater College, where he has served as the National Chair of the Bridgewater Fund Committee, and is currently serving on the President's Advisory Council.
Vice President of Operations
Mr. Samoilenka has put his decades of precast concrete experience to work for The Smith-Midland Corporation since 2004. His role prior to becoming VP of Operations was as plant manager of the flagship Midland, VA facility. His guidance and support of the large and diverse workforce played a major role in the expansive growth of the company.
Sergey started his career in 1997 as a Production Supervisor in the immense Plant of Effective Industrial Constructions in Minsk, Belarus and quickly progressed his way up to plant manager of that facility. In 2002 he was recruited to be the night shift plant supervisor by the Bethel, PA precast firm, Concrete Safety Systems, a leading producer of highway sound wall and precast safety barrier in the mid-Atlantic region.
Mr. Samoilenka speaks three languages; English, Russian and Spanish. He holds an Engineer Technologist of Precast Concrete degree from Belorussian State Polytechnic Academy. His continuing precast industry education includes certifications from the American Concrete Institution (ACI), Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) and National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA).
Vice President of Project Management
Mr. Steve Demas has put his over 35 year career’s worth of experience in the construction industry to work for Smith-Midland in multiple roles. Early in his career he worked for Smith-Midland as a project manager, followed by stints with other well-known precast industry leaders Tindall and Shockey. In 2011 Mr. Demas returned to Smith-Midland as Senior Project manager, and then was promoted to his current role in 2014.
His 28 years of precast concrete design, construction and project management knowledge along with 12 years of LEAN manufacturing experience has served Smith-Midland well. He has successfully managed over 250 architectural, structural and design build/assist projects over the years.
Mr. Demas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architect and Urban Design from Hampton University in Hampton, VA., and a Class A Contracting license.
Amit has 15+ years of design experience in the construction industry for residential, commercial and industrial developments. In his current role as the Engineering Manager at Smith Midland, he provides leadership and technical expertise to all engineering functions within the major precast concrete producer's business. Previously, he worked as a Senior Sales Engineer for a concrete producer in New York doing underground utility projects in the Hudson valley tri-state area. Amit started his career as a consulting engineer doing civil site design projects in Maryland, Delaware & Virginia. Amit has earned an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business in 2014, M.S. in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University in 2006, and a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Mumbai University (India) in 2001.
Amit is licensed to practice engineering (P.E.) in the states of New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland & West Virginia, and the province of British Columbia, Canada.
Smith-Carolina Corporation (NC)
Since 2014 Mr. Roderick Smith has played a critical role in the corporation as General Manager of the Smith-Carolina plant in Reidsville, NC, replacing a long-time successful predecessor. Under his direction the plant has not only stayed profitable, but has thrived and is now undertaking a large expansion on a new site.
Mr. Smith’s many years of working in the precast and real estate investment industries has proven highly beneficial to the corporation. Before joining Smith-Carolina he served at the Virginia plant in the roles of Steel Shop Manager, Batch Plant Manager, Sales and Production, giving him a well-rounded knowledge of the business.
Mr. Smith holds several certifications including: NCDOT Field and Batch certification; ACI Field certification; and most recently achieving the high honor of Master Precaster certification through an intensive training program offered by the National Precast Concrete Association.
Mr. Smith is involved in his local community and the Reedy Creek Community Church. He attended Northern Virginia Community and Bridgewater Colleges.
Smith-Columbia Corporation (SC)
Scott brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise from the precast/prestress industry. He has significant leadership, production and technical expertise and we look forward to him successfully navigating Smith-Columbia forward. We have big plans for Smith-Columbia and Scott is going to help us fulfill our corporate vision for the plant. Scott has held management positions at Oldcastle Precast, Oldcastle Infrastructure, Metromont Corporation and Watts Constructors in Guam. His skill set includes facility management, bids and contract negotiations, project management, scheduling, CAD, and production/management controls. As a native South Carolinian, and graduate of Clemson University, Scott was excited to relocate from CA back to his home turf.
Arthur X. Miles
Mr. Arthur Miles joined Easi-Set Worldwide as President in 2013. His primary duties are to oversee the expansion of Easi-Set licensing sales and the on-going development of their proprietary product lines. Mr. Miles previously served as the President and CEO of the Selimax Corporation, a management and technical consulting firm serving a client base of Fortune 500 global companies focused on the steel manufacturing and construction industries.
Previously, he performed the duties of President of Atlas Machine and Iron Works Inc., one of the premier steel manufacturing companies in the United States.
Mr. Miles is a graduate of Florida Southern College we he earned a bachelor’s of science degree in business. He is also bilingual in Spanish and English.
