Smith-Midland Corporation partnered with Fauquier Health last year to promote the health system’s “WorkPoint Wellness Program.” The WorkPoint Wellness Program is a corporate wellness program offered to local employers to meet occupational health needs, encourage wellness activities including preventative health screenings, educational lectures, exercise classes and more. The program seeks to help employers meet the health needs of their employees, encourage health and wellness, and avoid missed work days. Back in October, the partnership launched during Smith-Midland’s annual health fair.

The program seeks to help employers meet the health needs of their employees, encourage health and wellness, and avoid missed work days. Back in October, the partnership launched during Smith-Midland’s annual health fair.
Estelle Cardenas-McClinton, HR Manager, Smith-Midland, recently coordinated with Lisa Morgan, Fauquier Health’s Director of Post Acute Services to launch a Heart Healthy health fair on February 13, 2020. The purpose of the health fair was to provide Smith-Midland employees with access to education and resources in light of February as National Heart Month. Smith-Midland employees learned about information regarding cardiac services that are available locally, had the chance to partake in free health screenings (such as cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index and foot checks) and learned the importance of establishing healthy sleeping patterns.
Pictured here is Dr. Neel K. Shah, board-certified cardiologist with Carient Heart and Vascular, presenting during the lunch and learn presentation held at Smith-Midland on February 20, 2020.
Following the health fair, Estelle and Lisa also coordinated a special heart health lunch and learn presentation where Dr. Neel K. Shah, board-certified cardiologist with Carient Heart and Vascular, discussed heart health with the employees. In total, there was a great turnout of over 60 employees who attended the presentation – Smith-Midland had to open up a larger space to fit the attendees comfortably. Dr. Shah presented on the topic “Food, the Transcendent Medicine.” The goals of the presentation were to:
- Understand how food creates obesity, adiposity and inflammation in our bodies
- Understand how this inflammation leads to disease
- Appreciate how to change our food intake to reverse and prevent heart disease
- Appreciate how cardiologists can help assess and minimize your risk of heart attack and stroke
Overall, the health fair and presentation was both educational and informative. Smith-Midland continues to look forward to the future of what the WorkPoint Wellness Program will bring to our associates, their families and our community.
