MIDLAND, Va. – Smith-Midland Corporation is pleased to announce that they will be providing the architectural precast concrete panels for the Military Department (MILDEP) Investigative Agencies headquarters to be located at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.
The contract for the concrete panels awarded to Smith-Midland is valued at $4.3 million and features 135,000 square feet of architectural precast panels. The panels are thick, steel reinforced, with a buff and dark brown, light sandblast finish.
MILDEP is being built as an ongoing reorganization of the infrastructure as part of the BRAC (Base Relocation and Closure) Act passed by Congress in 1990. The project involves the construction of a multi-story, state-of-the-art facility for the five military investigative agencies. In addition to the three-story headquarters, the campus will include a visitors center, guardhouses, a vehicle inspection area, and a large parking lot.
According to Ashley Smith, President and COO of Smith-Midland, "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved in this project at Quantico. We were chosen by the general contractor, Hensel Phelps, because of our history of providing high quality precast products backed with great service and design assistance. This facility is a 'must see.'"
The project was awarded in July 2008 and production will begin in March 2009. The facility is to be fully operational by 2011.
